Northeast Investment Cooperative

The Northeast Investment Cooperative (NEIC) leverages member-owners’ investments to purchase and rejuvenate stressed and poorly utilized residential and commercial properties in Northeast Minneapolis, with an emphasis on the Central and Lowry Avenue corridors. Consistent with the principles and spirit of the cooperative movement, NEIC makes long-term, stabilizing, and transformative investments for the mutual benefit of our members and our community.

About Us

NEIC formed in 2012 as a way for neighbors to pool their money to address distressed property in Northeast Minneapolis, through a real estate investment cooperative, which was then a novel approach.  We completed our first project at 2506 Central Avenue in 2014 and a second small building in 2017 (since sold).  A third project has proved elusive due to the pandemic, rising property costs, and the limitations associated with an all-volunteer organization.  We have about 270 members and currently own our building at 2506 Central free and clear.  Our longtime tenant, the Fair State Brewing Cooperative, went out of business in late 2025 and our current focus is filling that vacancy; once completed, we will turn to charting NEIC's next phase.
